Fernhill Food Forest is part permaculture classroom, part woodland restoration, and part community gathering space—an ongoing effort to care for the land while learning from it.
And along the way, we’re growing tasty fruits, fresh herbs, veggies, and flowers for people and wildlife to enjoy.
A food forest is a garden designed to mimic a natural forest, but filled with edible plants like fruit and nut trees, berry bushes, herbs, and vegetables. Planted in layers—from tall trees to ground cover—it makes the most of sunlight, space, and water. The plants work together to enrich the soil, attract pollinators, repel pests, and hold moisture, creating an efficient, resilient, and beautiful way to grow food.

Grow What We Know.
Interested in hosting a workshop at Fernhill Food Forest?
We believe a thriving community grows when people share what they know. We’re inviting educators, artists, growers, makers, culture keepers, wellness practitioners, neighbors, and community organizations to bring their knowledge, skills, and creativity to the Food Forest.
Workshops can explore gardening, permaculture, nature, art, food, culture, wellness, sustainability, traditional knowledge—or something wonderful we haven’t thought of yet.
Have something you’d love to teach, demonstrate, make, or explore with the community? We’d love to hear your idea.
KIDS NATURE CLUB
Where curious kids grow wild!
Kids Nature Club is a free, hands-on nature program for ages 5-10 at Fernhill Food Forest. Each week, kids explore the forest, grow food, discover plants and wildlife, create with natural materials, and learn how to care for the land—and one another.

Come explore, learn, play & grow with us!
Since starting the food forest, we’ve expanded into broader ecological restoration. Our initial restoration site is the woodland area below the food forest—affectionately called “the Down Below.” We plan to grow these efforts into other parts of the park over time.
